Urban Tec: Technology, College & Career 2020 Virtual Event

Urban TEC has created an opportunity that purposefully bridges the digital literacy divide for Black male students in urban schools. These students are less likely to have access to and experience with state-of-the-art technology, leading to apprehension in pursuing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) careers.

Upholding our commitment to powering the next generation of STEAM professionals, and with a focus on Black male youth (grades 6-12), the Brothers in Technology (BIT) Conference was formed. An event unlike any other, BIT seeks to disrupt the flawed notion that Black males are primarily consumers and end-users of technology. The conference employs a breadth of hands-on experiences and interactive workshops crafted to expose, engage and empower students to pursue careers in STEAM and prepare future-ready innovators, developers and creators.

BIT sparks curiosity and creativity through the following workshops:

·        3D Printing

·        Audio-Engineering

·        Augmented Reality

·        Coding

·        Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

·        Drones

·        Electrical Engineering

·        Game Design (RPG)

·        Raspberry Pi's

·        Robotics

·        Virtual Reality

·        Wearable Gadgets

The 2020 BIT Conference was originally scheduled for April 30, 2020. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the conference has been transformed into the Urban TEC Technology, College & Career Virtual Event – an experience open to ALL youth, grades 9-12.
